R22 Phase Out

Refrigerant 22 (also known as R22 and chlorodifluoromethane) has been the most commonly used refrigerant in air conditioning systems since the 1950's.

Its ozone depletion potential (ODP) is 20 times less than most other refrigerants of its time, and in turn it has become the last of the ozone-damaging refrigerants to be phased out.

The F-Gas Regulation

The F-Gas Regulation places a legal obligation on the 'operators' (end users) of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases such as refrigerants, through better containment and leakage prevention.

It also makes it a criminal offence for any air conditioning company to carry out activities involving the installation, maintenance or repair of refrigeration, air conditioning or heat-pump equipment, without holding a full company F-Gas certificate.

TM44 Air Conditioning Energy Assessment

At the beginning of 2011 a new directive to improve the energy-efficiency of air conditioning systems in Commercial buildings was introduced, which is now a mandatory requirement.

All businesses operating air conditioning equipment with a collective cooling output of 12kW or more must have it inspected by a registered assessor, who will produce a report detailing whether/where increases in energy-efficiency could be achieved.
